Marriages in Britain-What are the Standard Costs and Registration Rules?

If you are just engaged, it is the best period of your life, as magical as the honeymoon as it builds up with great excitement to the beautiful ceremony and the celebrations. Here are some tips on what you need to know to help your planning.

Prepare the finances
Average estimates for a wedding in the U.K. reach up to between GBP 10,000 and 25,000 or can be just about GBP 1000 for intimate weddings. Draw up estimates on the number of guests that you would be having and search for the venue accordingly within the budget that you have created for the wedding. The number of guests can be a small gathering of 100-150 people or a large gathering of 400 people or more. Intimate weddings can be held with under ten people with anywhere under 100 guests forming a very close-knit gathering.

Any deposits that are required by the venue provider must be a small percentage of the total price according to the Competition and Markets Authority. Both the ceremony and the reception can be held at the same venue with certain locations also providing the witnesses needed for the ceremony. Gatherings of up to 100 people can be held at Manor/Hotel venues that can house all of the guests in rooms within a fixed cost estimate that includes ceremony and stay. Most locations have banquet and dining capacity of around 100-150 people. Locations with Exclusive-Use offers have arrival in the afternoon prior to the wedding and checkout before noon on the day after. Winter is the time to get venues at their lowest pricing.

Wedding Dress and Photographer
Splash out anywhere up to a GBP1000 on the wedding dress or you can get one that costs a tenth of that depending on how you view the need for grandeur or simplicity. It is all a question of what you like to do. Do just what you feel is apt for the occasion. Low-profile and new brand outfits are making a great splash. Photographers can be hired at reasonable costs on freelancing sites.

Registration
After selecting the venue where you intend to hold your wedding, either within the UK or abroad, you need to give a notice of the same to the Register Office. If both the persons are British Citizens and the marriage is taking place in an Anglican Church, the notice is not required as the Church will register the marriage.

For marriages other than Anglican ceremonies, visit your Local Register Office and give a notice of your wedding and the venue. To do so, you need to have lived within that Register District for at least the seven days prior to requesting the appointment. You need to take documents that certify your name, age and nationality such as your passport, birth certificate and others. A proof of address is also required which can be provided in the form of a UK driving license, bank statement from the last month, gas, water or electricity bill from the last three months etc. A fee of GBP 35 is applicable for each of the partners. Divorcees or Widowers have to take the relevant documents.

After giving the notice, a minimum of 28 days must go by before the wedding takes place. At weddings and civil partnership ceremonies, two witnesses are needed and formal wording is required.
